There are factors to be considered when a pulse rate reads different from the average usual. Where men are concerned, the pulse rate would differ on a few factors and age is one of it. The younger the man is, the higher the pulse rate and the older the man is the variance of his pulse rate would be slightly lower. However the normal pulse rate for men at rest would change when physical activity is introduced. And when physical activity is introduced, the normal respiratory rate for men would change as well. Here is where other factors like diet, nicotine and caffeine would make a difference to the pulse rate.

Eating a balanced diet, being a non-smoker and avoiding caffeinated beverages would help with one’s well being and it would bring about a normal pulse rate for men as well as for women. Apart from food and lifestyle, one’s pulse rate may vary when one is ill. Infection, fever, viral disease and some others can contribute towards a faster pulse rate. So do not be alarmed when your pulse rate is higher when it is taken by your doctor especially when you are ill. Maintaining a normal pulse rate for men as well as for women would be ideal in most situations.
